Rona Green joins Cascade Print Room

Biography

Rona Green was born 1972 in the port city of Geelong, Australia.

She studied fine art at La Trobe University, Bendigo (1992 – 1994) and visual arts at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne (1998). Since 1994 Green has exhibited regularly and her work is represented in numerous public and private collections in Australia and overseas including Artbank and the National Gallery of Australia.

Well known for her pictures of peculiar characters she has received many accolades for her printmaking such as the Geelong Print Prize, Swan Hill Print Acquisitive Award and the Silk Cut Award Grand Prize.

Green lives and works in Melbourne, Australia and is currently undertaking a Master of Fine Arts at the Monash University Gippsland Centre for Art and Design.

‘(Green) adopts an absolute simplicity of graphic strategies. Having established through her technique a transparency of means she then layers possible levels of meaning for her images. They are humanoid allegories which she employs to comment on the human condition, on urban tribal cultures, on attitudes to animals as well as on possible animistic readings of people. Why her images are so effective is because they combine a directness of impact with a non-prescriptive freedom of interpretation. A good artist frequently manages to create her own reality, a mythology in which others will believe. This Green achieves admirably.’

Art, Healing and Cascade Print Room at the Olivia Newton John Cancer and Wellness Centre

Art, Healing and Cascade Print Room

The Olivia Newton-John cancer and wellness centre art collection now has an artistic deputation from Maldon. The Olivia Newton-John wellness centre concept is about enhancing quality of life through exceptional quality care and through a positive and creative environment for cancer patients, families and carers who find themselves undergoing treatment. "When I first went there, it appeared more like a boutique hotel and retreat centre than a hospital. Really quite a special place for healing on so many levels", Kareen said.

Renowned artist, peace activist and former Dean of the Victorian College of the Arts, William Kelly, visited Maldon earlier this year. His express aim was to visit locals Jeff Gardner, a former painting student of the VCA where he first met Bill, and Kareen Anchen at Cascade Print Room. Bill was on a mission to see the unique Cascade print collection and acquire artworks on behalf of The Olivia Newton-John cancer and wellness centre at The Austin Hospital in Melbourne. He was not disappointed.

From our extensive range, Bill selected over 30 original artworks from a long list of local artists, emerging and established artists. Prints by Bridget Farmer, Robert Maclaurin, Rhyll Plant, Nicky Carey, David Frazer, Kevin Foley, Wendy Stavrianos, Craig Gough, John Pollard, Jeff Gardner, Judy Holding to name a few, plus a drawing by Kareen Anchen, were selected to enhance and add a certain special something to the Olivia Newton-John wellness centre.

Jeff Gardner was also given the job of framing some additional artworks which now form part of the Olivia Newton-John wellness centres collection alongside some rather large names in Australian Art - Arthur Boyd, Rick Amor, Clifton Pugh and many lesser known, but nevertheless artists of great artistic merit. It is not commonly known that Jeff Gardner has been an archival picture framer for some 25 years. Jeff's main focus has been about framing his own prints and paintings as well as other professional and emerging artist's exhibitions.
